Hosta - Key West

Hosta Key West, Hosta 'Key West', is a member of the 'Americana Series'. This very large, fast growing hosta is a cross between Hosta 'Elatior' and 'High Noon'. Hosta 'Key West' is a lovely plant with its smooth heart shaped leaves and pleasing gold color. The bright gold, heart-shaped leaves are very large and form a clump of foliage, that when mature, will reach over 6' across! Bright filtered shade will produce a more intense gold color and lavender flowers are formed in early summer. This low care perennial is ideal for shady positions. Hostas grow best in moist, well-drained, highly organic soils with a pH between 5. 5 and 7. 5. Sandy loam is better than clay because it provides more aeration for the roots. High-filtered or dappled sunlight is necessary for clean, healthy growth. Morning sun is tolerable and will help to intensify the leaf colors, but hot afternoon sun is usually deadly to hostas. They are most at home in shady, woodland settings and often work well as specimen or edging plants. ... more information
