Hosta Hollywood Lights, Hosta 'Hollywood Lights' (PP#17,296), is a large hosta that is a sport of 'On Stage' and was developed at Shady Oaks Nursery. Hosta 'Hollywood Lights' PP17296 forms an umbrella shape with its large dome-shaped leaves. The clumps are topped with 2' tall spikes of light lavender flowers in mid-July. one of the most eye-popping hostas in recent decades! The handsome, large, arching dark green leaves of 'Hollywood Lights' are accented by a yellow flare in the center of the leaf that becomes an interesting chartreuse color in the summer. This low care perennial is ideal for shady positions. Hostas grow best in moist, well-drained, highly organic soils with a pH between 5. 5 and 7. 5. Sandy loam is better than clay because it provides more aeration for the roots. High-filtered or dappled sunlight is necessary for clean, healthy growth. Morning sun is tolerable and will help to intensify the leaf colors, but hot afternoon sun is usually deadly to hostas.
