The Hosta Blue Umbrellas, Hosta 'Blue Umbrellas', is one of the largest of the blue shaded hosta's. It has huge blue-green leaves that are cupped downward like an unbrella. The pale lavender flowers of this fast growing hosta appear in June, however, hosta’s are not known for their flowers. Hosta’s provide bright color in shade with wonderful foliage and Blue Umbrellas is no exception. Blue Umbrellas performs best if planted in full shade but will tolerate some direct sun. Plant in any moist and well-drained spot. Blue Umbrellas has excellent slug resistance. Fox Glove - Spanish Peaks The Foxglove Spanish Peaks, 'Digitalis ‘Spanish Peaks’, is a showy and compact perennial that produces an array of wonderful raspberry rose blooms. The dense spikes produce large tubular flowers. The foliage has a velvet and fuzzy texture that contrast well with the flower colors. ‘Spanish Peaks’ has a plant height of 12” and a spread of 12”. Digitalis should be planted in full sun but will tolerate morning shade. It blooms early to mid summer, July to August. Being a major attraction to bees, butterflies and birds, it is a must in any garden. Try planting it in woodland gardens, as a border plant or cut-flowers. Remember to leave some dead flower stalks to self sow for future flowers. (All parts of Digitalis are poisonous if ingested and can be invasive. ).
