Inchelium Red Organic Garlic (Softneck) is from Inchelium, WA, on the Colville Indian Reservation. It has large 3"+ bulbs and produces 8 to 20 cloves of good size. Inchelium Red is mild, but has a lasting flavor that has a hint of hot! These dense cloves store well and the flavor can get stronger in storage. Won "Very Best of the Soft-Necks" in a Rodale taste test! Garlic survives bitterly cold winters underground and then grows rapidly when the weather warms in spring; bulbs in summer. Garlic needs fertile soil with lots of organic matter. The soil needs to remain uncompacted through the long growing season. Harvesting them at the right time is very important. Dug too soon, the skins won’t have formed around each clove. Harvest as soon as leaf browning begins. Softnecks keep longer than hardnecks, but they are less hardy and more prone to make small, very strong-flavored cloves. . ... find out more
