Early Italian Purple Organic (Softneck) has a large bulb that is white-skinned with purple stripes and numerous small cloves. This vigorous plant is better adapted to summer heat than Italian Late. It is widely grown around Gilroy, California, the "garlic capital" of the world. One of the very best for hot climates, with large cloves on bulbs that store for up to 10 months. Garlic survives bitterly cold winters underground and then grows rapidly when the weather warms in spring; bulbs in summer. Garlic needs fertile soil with lots of organic matter. Keep them weeded.
