Purple Long Organic Eggplants are a very prolific Italian variety. They are a dark purple, cucumber shaped, heavily branched, and slightly bulbous. This variety comes from India and produces good yields of tasty 12" long by 2 ½" wide dark purple eggplants. Purple Long are very flavorful and tender. Plant eggplant after danger of frost because it is a cold-sensitive vegetable; likes well drained rich soil. It requires a long warm season for best yields. Eggplant needs careful attention for a good harvest and a side dress with nitrogen fertilizer about every four to six weeks during the growing season is a good idea.
