Delphinium - Black Eyed Angels
Delphinium Black Eyed Angels, Delphinium elatum 'Black Eyed Angels', looks like a tall, majestic "angel" that floats over your landscape in a dramatic fashion. The three to five foot tall plant has strong stems that produce large spires of frilly white blooms with black bee centers. Delphinium 'Black Eyed Angels' makes a great cut flower arrangement and can also be dried for lasting beauty. Planted en masse, delphiniums make a magnificent display in early summer. Delphinium 'Black Eyed Angels' grow best in rich, well-drained soil with a basic pH. If your soil is naturally acidic, adding lime will help to provide these conditions. They are also heavy feeders. The addition of compost or manure to the soil, as well as a granular fertilize, will result in healthier, stronger plants. Cut back the first flush of blooms quickly to stimulate rebloom. Since their stems are hollow, taller varieties of delphiniums should be staked to prevent damage from wind and rain. . ... more
