Clematis - The Vagabond

Clematis The Vagabond, Clematis 'The Vagabond', is a newer clematis hybrid with a very compact habit that makes it perfect for containers or a small trellis. The deep purple 6 inch flowers have maroon central bars and prominent creamy white filaments, that really stand out against the darker petals. Clematis 'The Vagabond' is a free flowering clematis that blooms profusely in early summer and reblooms in late Summer though Fall. Discovered as a seedling of Clematis 'Red Cardinal'. Clematis 'The Vagabond' needs a supporting structure to grow properly, and it is easy to grow with a rich, porous, alkaline soil that has plenty of room for the roots to spread. Best performance is when the tops are in full sunlight and the roots are shaded, but will thrive and bloom in shade. Apply a generous mulch or a shallow-rooted ground cover near the base of the vine.
