Morden Blush Rose
The Morden Blush Rose, Rosa 'Morden Blush' (PP8,054), produces pointed buds of ivory and blush that open to sweetly fragrant ivory blooms with pink at the center. The low growing shrub has glossy foliage to frame the lovely blooms. It will die back to the crown in Zone 3, but flowers on new growth. This rose has its own root. The advantage of own root roses is that once established they are very resilient. If winter's freezing breezes kill the top growth, the rose will grow back in the spring, and the recovered rose will look the same as the one you purchased. .Harry Lauder’s Walkingstick Harry Lauder’s Walkingstick, Corylus avellana 'Contorta', is noted for its contorted, twisted growth, making it a real conversation piece when grown as a specimen plant. This unique deciduous shrub has interesting gnarled and twisted branches so it is often not grown primarily for its blooms but for this unusual branching pattern. Harry Lauder's Walkingstick has terrific yellow fall foliage color with showy greenish-yellow catkins (as on pussy willows) that brighten the winter scene. It is a slow grower to 8 to 10 feet tall and wide and prefers well drained soil in sun to part shade. The branches are valued for their use in flower arrangements.
Mugho Pine
The Mugho Pine tree, Pinus mugo mughus, may also be called the dwarf mountain pine. Thanks to its low growth, mugho pine can be used at the front of a border or anywhere you want year-round greenery in conifer form. In nature, it often grows in slightly rocky areas with shallow topsoil. It does require good drainage. Roots grow near the surface, so using a cover soil with a 2-inch-thick mulch to protect them is recommended. These trees are easily transplanted. Colorado Blue Spruce
